Recognizing our successes, trail advocates and mountain bikers from other communities in Central Oregon have approached us to expand trail opportunities into these areas. Since every community is different, we don’t wish to impose the goals that work in Bend to other places, but we do wish to bolster their goals with our own expertise and resources. In late 2012 the COTA Board of Directors began to look for ways to support these initiatives and came up with a program where COTA can incorporate Chapters representing communities around Central Oregon.
To date, we have formally incorporated chapters in Prineville, serving Crook County and in Redmond, serving those local areas. Sunriver also will soon have its own COTA Chapter as well. These places can benefit from our experience in planning, designing, constructing and maintaining trails, and gain support with the many resources COTA has such as tools, training, land manager relations, and funding. Expanding trail opportunities is our shared goal and getting more people involved locally with trail stewardship is the benefit.
