The Radlands (Northeast Redmond Trail Complex)
Welcome to the Radlands
COTA is building new trails! Construction continues throughout the winter on an expanding trail system on the east side of Redmond. The Redmond Area Parks and Recreation Department (RAPRD) will be overseeing this area of Deschutes County land.
The trailhead is located at the High Desert Sports Complex at 1859 NE Maple Avenue.
This ever-expanding network is ready to be explored.
Radlands is unique with its views of Smith Rocks, the Three Sisters and the surrounding desert; all within riding distance of most of Redmond’s residents. There is significant rolling relief, which is making fast and fun trail, punctuated with the challenges of lava rock outcroppings. The trail system is being laid out to attract a wide array of self-propelled (biker/hiker) trail users for year-round use and will be yet another standout winter riding destination for all Central Oregonians. Trail construction is challenging due to the rocky soil and hearty desert vegetation. As of Fall 2012 there are a little over five miles of completed singletrack with endless miles of doubletrack in the area to explore.
The scale of this project is massive; on par with that of the Peterson Ridge Trail in Sisters and the Wanoga Network in Bend. This multi-year undertaking will need significant support from the community and in return, will provide another recreational asset for Redmond, and all of Central Oregon.
COTA would like to thank our corporate sponsors: Trinity Bikes, Altrec.com, REI, Hutch’s Bicycles, and the Community 101 Grant Program for their early support from within the Redmond community. We welcome additional business and individual donors to support the work events and expenses this project will require.
Stay tuned for upcoming work event announcements.
