Newberry Crater – Crater Rim Trail
Season: summer, fall
Distance: about 20 miles
Hazards: lava rocks, sand
Best ridden counterclockwise. First 3 miles are up a dirt road of fairly strenuous climbing. Ridable from about July through Sept. Medium technical difficulty with sections of loose pumice. Map recommended for trail directions. This ride is in a national monument so a use pass is required for entrance into the park. Ride starts at Paulina Lake Campground. Very scenic ride, incredible views of Paulina Lake, East Lake, and the mountains of Central Oregon. Bring a camera! Altitude is about 6,300 to 7,600 feet.
Oregon Mountain Biking has an extensive Newberry Crater description and maps.
